Bajau Laut - The Sea is Our Home
Their stilt houses are burned down, their boats destroyed: the sea nomads of Borneo are stateless and can be displaced at any moment. The film explores the deep cultural roots and spiritual heritage of the Bajau Laut – the first inhabitants of the Semporna region – and contrasts them with the forced evictions targeting their oldest and most traditional villages. In the tension between eradication and assimilation, three chapters trace the evolution of adaptation, while local grassroots movements fight for the rights of the sea nomads.
